Scan item vs Rapid scan

Updated October 28, 2026

Scan item takes up to four photos and a details form before research. Rapid scan takes one photo, researches in the background, and holds the row in Picks until you save it.

Both modes live on the Scan tab. Both spend one AI scan when research runs. They differ in how many photos you take, whether you confirm details first, and where the result waits.

You can open the camera without an account. ResellFinder will not analyze a photo until you are signed in.

Scan item

Use Scan item for a higher-value, vintage, or fiddly piece, when a label, a model number, or the wear should be in the estimate before you decide.

  1. On Scan, choose Scan item.
  2. Photograph the Whole item so the shape and color fill the frame. That photo is required.
  3. Optionally add:

- Tag / model — brand mark, model number, or size tag - Barcode — UPC or SKU - Condition — wear, a chip, a stain, or a missing part

  1. You can tap Price as soon as the whole item is in the frame. The extra photos can wait.
  2. On Confirm the find, check:

- Where you found it — location is remembered when you allow it. Research still runs if you decline. - What did you find? — a short title, such as “vintage corduroy jacket”. - Category — Apparel & shoes, Electronics, Media, Toys & games, Home goods, or Other. - Condition — New, Excellent, Good, Fair, or For parts. - Completeness — Complete, Missing accessory, Missing key part, Parts only, or Unknown. - Function — Tested working, Untested, Needs repair, Non-working, or Unknown. - Overall quality — 1 (heavily flawed) through 5 (near mint).

  1. Tap Find a resell range. Stay on the screen until research finishes. The result shows the cautious range, the maximum buy price, and eBay listings when that lookup ran.

Defaults on the confirm screen are condition Good, completeness Unknown, function Unknown, and quality 3.

Photos that help:

Use the shutter for a new photo, or Library to pick one you already have.

After the estimate, Save this find stores it in the open Haul Locker (Picker and above). Scan another item starts a new check. Scan item does not add a row to Picks.

Rapid scan

Use Rapid scan on a crowded thrift aisle, an estate-sale room, or a liquidation bin, when you want a first pass and will sort keepers later. There is no confirm screen. You can keep walking while the photo is researched.

  1. On Scan, choose Rapid scan.
  2. Take one photo.
  3. Research runs in the background. The row shows up in Picks. An in-progress row can read Checking… or Pricing….
  4. Open the row for the likely range, the buy ceiling, and eBay listings when that lookup ran.
  5. Save keepers to the active locker, or leave the rest unsaved.

Empty Picks reads Nothing in Picks yet.

Sort Picks before you finish

Keep scanning

Settings → Scanning & data → Keep scanning controls what the camera does after a Rapid-scan snap.

What each mode spends

If something goes wrong

Picks is empty after I used Scan item

That is expected. Scan item stays on the estimate screen. Open Picks only for Rapid scan rows.

Rapid scan never leaves the camera

Keep scanning is on. Turn it off in Settings if you want Picks after each snap, or open the Picks tab yourself.

I cannot save the find

Sign in first. If you are signed in on Thrifter, upgrade to Picker or above. Haul is the locker; Picks only holds the session.

The row stays on Checking…

Stay on a connection and reopen the row. If research failed, the row should show an error rather than a made-up price. See Understanding ResellFinder estimates.
