Understanding ResellFinder estimates
A result is a cautious low, likely, and high resale range plus a confidence level. eBay rows are asking prices for the same or similar items, not sold comps, and they do not rewrite the range.
A finished check is labeled Preliminary estimate. Treat it as a conservative starting point while you are still in the store. It is not an appraisal, not a completed-sale price, and not a guarantee that the item will sell.
ResellFinder reads your photo and the details you confirmed, then returns a cautious US dollar range from visual identification and general category knowledge. If it cannot identify the item, it shows an error and Try again. It does not fill in a placeholder price.
The cautious resale range
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| Lower | Cautious floor of the visual range. The buy ceiling uses this number when it is the lowest figure available |
| Likely | The middle of the range. Compare the store tag to this first. The buy ceiling uses it when no lower figure is present |
| Higher | Top of the cautious range. A wide gap between lower and higher means the item is harder to pin down |
| How certain is this? | High, Medium, or Low |
| Buy ceiling | What you can pay and still hit your profit target. It is calculated from the range and your Settings. It is not a fourth resale number |
The basis line on a result stays explicit: the range is a cautious visual estimate, not a sold-comp price.
Confidence is about identification, not about how fast the item will sell.
- High — distinct markings are visible: a readable brand, an intact model tag, or another clear identifier, and your details agree.
- Medium — the category or a generic style is clear, but the brand, model, or completeness is only partly visible.
- Low — the label is obscured, the item looks unbranded, or the identity is unusual. The range should be wider. The app may ask for one extra detail.
When confidence is low, add a clearer label or condition photo, tighten the title, or tap Adjust quality and correct condition, completeness, function, or notes. Then run the check again. That new check spends another AI scan.
What the estimate is using
The model is instructed to avoid inventing a verified brand, model, serial number, completed sale, marketplace listing, or authentication. If a brand or model appears, it came from what is visible or from what you typed. Check it before you buy.
Suggested tags on a private photo, when they appear, are visual labels only. They are not a brand authentication and they are not a price.
eBay listings are asking prices
eBay rows are listings for the same or similar items. The search sends text derived from the item. It does not publish your photo.
Read them as asking prices on live listings. They show what sellers want right now for the same item or a similar one. That is aisle context. It is not a sold-comp history, and it does not replace the visual range.
- They can be the same item or only a similar one.
- They are not completed sales and not sold comps.
- Filtering or sorting the cards does not change the low / likely / high range.
- The median of those asking prices can pull the buy ceiling down when it is lower than the visual range. It does not raise the printed range.
You can filter by condition, turn on Free shipping only, and sort by price or ending soon. View eBay listing opens that listing in Safari.
eBay does not run on every scan. In Settings → Scanning & data, Check eBay with each AI scan is optional. The hint under it is Uses one eBay comp when comps remain. You can also tap Check eBay on a result that already has an AI range and no eBay median. That spends one eBay comp and no extra AI scan.
A lookup with no matches can still use the comp, because the search ran.
If something goes wrong
Try again, with no prices
Identification failed or the service did not return a range. Check the photo, confirm the title, and run it again. Do not expect a guessed price on that screen.
Confidence stays Low
Add the maker mark, model, barcode, or a defect close-up, and set completeness and function if you know them. One specific missing detail is more useful than another wide shot of the whole item.
No eBay listings
The query follows the title. Try a simpler title (brand + model, or title + format) and research again. If the empty state says comps are paused, unavailable, or not configured, the AI range can still stand on its own.
The eBay prices are higher than the likely value
That is allowed. Asking prices are what sellers hope to get. The cautious range is deliberately lower and does not move up to match them.
I wanted a sold price
ResellFinder does not show completed sales. Use the likely range as a ceiling on optimism, then record what you actually get in Haul after it sells.
